Dig out all those old story books, albums, scrap books, collector’s items that you have treasured for so many years. The time has come for your kid to learn from them. Just read a story or describe an event to him every day. Make sure he has access to plenty of reading and writing materials in your home: books, magazines, paper, pencils, pens, crayons, etc.

Try to take him along wherever you go – to jog, to play, to shop etc. Go for walks together and talk about what you see. Take him to the grocery store with you and let him learn the value of money.

Ask him to find his name’s first letter anywhere in and around your house like – on juice cans, cereal boxes, on magazine covers, in newspaper headlines, in books, on signboards, on letter boxes etc. Next day ask him to look out for the next letter.

Let him figure out how many forks, plates, napkins and cups will be needed for dinner and set the table. Help him count his steps when he climbs a staircase or from his bed to the door bell etc. kids with books Take him to visit public places like the library, zoo, parks and museums to help him build social skills and expand his experience. Talk to him and listen to what he has to say. Ask questions about what he has seen and learnt and acknowledge his thoughts.

Time passes by like the water under a bridge. You may not realize how fast your little angle will grow up. So this is the right time to put the act together and give the most important thing a mother can give to her child i.e. her time!
