Well, if you have a swimming pool around then you can set the kids for a “splashy n dippy” time. But no worries if you don’t, because the amazing games explained below just need some basic household stuff like a garden hose, some water balloons, sponges, buckets, baskets & mugs and the kids are ready to cool off in style!

Water Balloon Catch
Age Group: 5-12 years
Game Objective: In this cool kids water games players have to catch the water balloons over their heads.
Game Learning: Just fun!
No. of Players: More the better but at least 10-12.
Materials Required:
- A pack of colorful water balloons.
- An adaptor (fits on the Tap & makes balloons filling easier)
- Bucket for each team
- A small plastic basket or a round plastic strainer for each team.
- Loads of water off course!
How to Play:
- Divide the kids into teams of at least 3 players per team.
- Make the teams stand in parallel lines with enough gap between them.
- Each team will have a bucket full of water balloons.
- The first player from each team will come forward by 10 steps and face his respective team. He will become the “Catcher”.
- Catcher will hold the plastic basket over his head.
- The next player in line will become the “Thrower”
- The Thrower will toss 5 balloons one by one to the Catcher, which he has to catch in the basket over his head.
- After 5 throws the Catcher will pass on the basket to the Thrower and moves to the back of the line.
- The next player in line will now become the Thrower and gets the chance to toss 5 balloons to the new Catcher.
- This cycle will continue until all the players have had their chance to play Thrower & the Catcher.
- Once all the balloons in the basket are finished, tally the number of hits of hits and misses of each team.
- The team with maximum hits (catches in the basket) WINS!!!
Game Variations: Make the Catcher stand with his back towards his team and the Thrower must toss the balloon over his head. This will add a funny twist to this amazing kids water games.
My Tip :
- Fill the balloons to the brim so that it bursts easily when it hits the Catcher’s basket. After all, the idea is to get WET!
Squeeze!
Age Group: 3-8 years
Game Objective: This water game for kids is very simple. Kids have to soak & squeeze the water.
Game Learning: Just fun!
No. of Players: 4-5 kids
Materials Required:
- Two buckets.
- A car wash sponge.
How to Play:
- Give an empty bucket and a water filled bucket to each player.
- Keep a gap of 10 steps between the two buckets.
- The players have to soak as much water as they can in the sponge from the filled bucket and rush to squeeze it out in the empty bucket.
- Set the time limit.
- The kid with maximum water in the empty bucket WINS!!!
My Tip :
- This simple kids water game can be played with water theme birthday party. Kids can be divided into small teams of 3 and a Soak & Squeeze relay race can be started.
Balloon Toss
Age Group: 8-12 years
Game Objective: In this kids water game kids have to throw and catch the water balloons.
Game Learning: Catching
No. of Players: 2-10
Materials Required:
How to Play:
- Group the kids in pairs.
- Each pair will start with a gap of 5 steps and will face each other.
- Each pair will toss the water balloon back and forth.
- After every toss the kid will take one step backwards, thus increasing the gap.
- With every step the chances of the water balloon getting burst in the hands one of the players will increase.

Melt the Glacier
Age Group: 4-8 years
Game Objective: A chilled out kids water game in which kids have to melt the ice.

Materials Required:
How to Play:- Divide the kids into pairs.
- Give an ice cube to every team that they have to melt at the earliest using their hands.
- The kid can pass on the ice cube to his team mate if his hands gets too cold.

Bob The Builder
Age Group: 3 to 8 years
Game Objective: Bob the builder with a twist! This kids water game will make Bob do what he likes i.e. construction, but this time instead of bricks he has to use ICE!
Game Learning: A physical property of Ice. Two ice cubes can be joined together firmly with the help of a pinch of salt. Salt acts as cement between two ice cubes.

Materials Required:
- Lots of ice cubes.
- A little bit of Salt.
How to Play:
- Give an Ice box full of ice cubes and a large tray to the kid.(to stop the water spilling around)
- Let the kid use his imagination to build any structure he wants before the ice melts.

My Tip :
- Make two teams and give them a simple drawing that they have to build in a stipulated time. Let the kids race against the time as well as the melting ice.
Splash War
Age Group: 5 to 12 years (elders can also play!)
Game Objective: A kids water game in which two teams have to strike an all out attack over each other and only ammunition to be used is Water!
Game Learning: How to beat the heat!
No. of Players: Everyone at home, friends, relatives & neighbors.
Materials Required:
- Packets of Water balloons (cannon balls and hand grenade shaped balloons will give a better feel).
- Water Balloon launcher.
- Water Squirt guns.
- Continuous supply of water.
- Tap adapter to fill the water balloons quickly.
How to Play:
- Divide the gang into two groups and give a fascinating name resembling some ancient enemy kingdoms. For e.g. “Knights of Macedonia VS. Persian Warriors”.
- Divide the ammunition equally.
- Have independent & continuous supply of water through a garden hose pipe for both the teams.
- Make a dividing line to make the territories with the help of a rope or volleyball net and take positions.
- Specify the roles that each team member will play during the war. Like – Water Grenade re-filler, Grenade and Cannon launchers, Squirt gun sharp shooters etc.
- Let the war begin and “Attack” till all the ammunition is over and everyone is drenched completely!!!
My Tip :
- A swimming pool can add an interesting twist in the war-tale. Troops take position on either side of the pool which can be signified as the border. Have some underwater marines cross the border and barge into the enemy’s terrain!
Pennies In The Bottom
Age Group: 5 to 12 years (parents can also play!)
Game Objective: A kids water game in which kids have to collect the exact change from the swimming pool.
Game Learning: How to beat the heat!
No. of Players: More the better.
Materials Required:
- Lots of coins.
- A swimming pool.
How to Play:
- Gather lots of small denomination coins and thrown them into the swimming pool.
- Form two teams and make them sit on the opposite sides of the pool.
- Assign a common task to both the teams i.e. to gather the coins so that it sums up to a certain amount, say 12.25 bucks or 14.50 bucks.
- Both the teams will dive together into the pool and start the search. The team that tallies the exact amount first WINS!!!
Shark & Mermaids
Age Group: 5 to 12 years (parents can also play!)
Game Objective: A kids water game in which Mermaids have to cross the ocean without getting caught by the hungry Shark!
Game Learning: How to beat the heat!
No. of Players: 5-10
Materials Required:
How to Play:
- Choose a “Shark” & rest of the kids are “Mermaids”.
- Shark will swim to the centre of the swimming pool.
- All the Mermaids will sit on a side wall of the pool.
- The Shark will say “Little Mermaids sitting on the stone, cross the ocean on your own”.
- All the mermaids will now dive into the pool and try to reach the opposite side without getting tagged by the Shark.
- The Shark can tag a Mermaid only when the latter is floating or swimming on the surface of the water. If the Mermaid is floating underwater then it cannot be tagged by the Shark.
- If a Mermaid is tagged by the Shark then he/ she will also become a Shark for the next round.
- This will continue until the last Mermaid is left and he/ she will be the Winner.
Game Variations :
- Instead of having multiple Sharks, the first person to be tagged by the Shark will become the Shark for the new round. This is especially good if there are less than 5 players.
Laurel & Hardy
Age Group: 5 to 12 years (parents can also play!)
Game Objective: A kids water game for kids in which blind folded Hardy has to find the evading Laurel.
Game Learning: How to beat the heat!
No. of Players: 5-10
Materials Required:
- A swimming pool.
- A swimming goggles with stickers on the glasses.
How to Play:
- Choose an “It” and let him wear the swimming goggles.(stickers on the glasses will ensure that “It” cannot see anything.
- Other players along with “It” will jump into the swimming pool.
- ”It” will shout “Laurel” & other players will respond by shouting “Hardy”!
- ”It” will follow their sound and try to tag them.
- The first kid to be tagged by “It” will become “It” for the new round.
Game Variations :
- If ”It” feels that a player is sitting out of the water he/ she can shout “Dolphins Out!” & that kid will become “It”.
Dip! Dribble, Splash!
Age Group: 4 to 8 years
Game Objective: A kids water game which is a variant of Duck Duck Goose.
Game Learning: Just fun!
No. of Players: 5-10
Materials Required:
How to Play:
- Make the kids sit in a big circle.
- Choose an “It” and let him/ her carry a mug/ jug of water.
- ”It” will walk around the circle dribbling a few drops of water on each kid’s head while saying “Dip-Dribble”.
- When “It” has reached the kid whom he/ she want to drench “It” shouts “Splash” while pouring whole water in that kids head quickly.
- That player will stand up and start chasing the “It”.
- The player has to tag “It” before “It” sits on the vacant spot left by him, otherwise, he/ she has to become “It” and start a new round.
- If “It” is tagged by the player then he is suspended from the game and has to sit at the center of the circle till someone else gets caught.
Baseball Bomb
Age Group: 9-12 years
Game Objective: A kids water game in which players have to hit maximum strikes!
Game Learning: Just fun!
No. of Players: 6-10
Materials Required:
- A big plastic basket.
- Water balloons.
- A plastic baseball bat.
How to Play:
- Make 2 teams.
- The bowling team will select a Pitcher and a Catcher for the first round.
- The batting team will select a Batter for the first round.
- Batter & Pitcher will take their positions with a gap of at least 10-20 steps (depending on the space available.
- A Catcher will take his position 2 steps behind the Batter with a basket in his hands.
- The Pitcher will throw the water balloon to the catcher who will try to “Basket It” but the batter standing in between will try to obstruct it by striking it with his baseball bat
- Decide the number of throws by the Pitcher, number of strike chances by a striker & number of catches by the catcher beforehand so that everyone in the team get the chance to get SOAKED!
Diffuse The Water Bomb
Age Group: 3-5 years
Game Objective: A kids water game in which players have to diffuse the bomb by cutting it!
Game Learning: Just fun!
No. of Players: 2-5
Materials Required:
- A dish or a plate
- Some water balloons preferably of Grenade or Cannon shaped.
- A cutlery knife or plastic knife.
How to Play:
- Make the kids sit around a table.
- Serve them with water bombs, 4 each.
- Using their knives the kids have to cut & burst the balloons one by one.
- The first one to burst all the balloons WINS this kids water game!
Trampoline Splash
Age Group: 8-12 years
Game Objective: A kids water game in which players have to catch the water balloons on a trampoline.

No. of Players: 4
Materials Required:
- A single bed sheet or a gents towel.
- Some water balloons.
How to Play:
- Make the kids hold the 4 corners of the bed sheet to form a trampoline.
- Place a water balloon at the center and bounce it to some height.
- As the water balloon is tossed up the kids will follow it underneath and try to catch it back on the trampoline without bursting it.
- Continue till the water balloon fall on the ground and bursts.
My Tip :
- To make the game more challenging put 2 or 3 balloons at a time.
Ticking Water Bomb
Age Group: 5-12 years
Game Objective: A kids water game in which players have to pass the water balloons as if it is a bomb ticking to explode!

No. of Players: 10
Materials Required:
How to Play:
- Make two teams.
- Both the teams will stand in separate lines facing each other with a gap of 10 steps.
- Hand over a water balloon to the first player of a team.
- He has to toss the balloon to the first player of the opposite team.
- That player has to toss the water balloon back to the second player of the opposite team.
- This zigzag passing of the water balloon will continue between the two teams till a player bursts it while catching or tossing it.
- Tally the scores, the team who has busted lesser no of balloons WINS this kids water game!
My Tip :
- To make the game more challenging use 2 or 3 balloons at a time.
Shoot The Ball
Age Group: 4-8 years
Game Objective: A kids water game in which players have to strike the ball out of a cup.
Game Learning: Just fun!
No. of Players: 4
Materials Required:
- 2 Table Tennis balls or Ping Pong balls.
- 2 water guns.
- 2 empty cups.
How to Play:
- Make two teams of 2 kids each.
- In each team one kid will hold the cup (at chest level) while other will hold the Squirt gun.
- The two kids will stand 4 steps apart.
- Put a Table tennis ball into the cup.
- The kid with the gun will try to stream the water into the cup i.e. held firmly by his/ her team mate.
- Once the cup is filled with water the ball with start floating on the top. The player should continue to strike the ball with water stream till it falls out of the cup.
- The team who does this first WINS!!!
My Tip :
- The aim is obviously to win the race but at the same time, unintentionally, the kid will drench his/ her team mate with water. Swap roles in the second round to ensure everyone gets a fair chance to beat the heat on a hot summer day!
